Ola everyone

South African living in Hertfordshire here. Been keeping fish for about a year now and now loving the plants.

Changed my shrimp only Juwel tank into a Betta tank and will soon be dividing it into 3 for three male betta. Looking at giving them a nice planted biotope to live in.

What plants will be region specific and will will actually grow and look nice under the lighting I have in there now.

Tank: Juwel Rekord 96 (62 - 70 liters after displacement)
Lighting: 20W T8 single bulb (I have some cheap 5050 SMD Leds which I can add? They are warm white but I actually like the single T8 as its not too bright on the Betta's
Filtration: Eheim 2213 with spraybar (flow is still too much so might look at another option)

Substrate: Unipack Gravel and soon some UniPak Fine Gravel/Sand

Hardscape: Redmoor Root (which will have to be divided to fit the three sections), Pebbles/Stones

Current plants:
-Java Fern (tied to the redmoor) from my mother Java Fern
-Twisted Vallis, which I will harvest from my community tank and buy some more, looking at using this as my background plant
-Anubias SP Nana or Petite. Nana will be tied onto Redmoor and Stones. If I can find Petite ill be a happy man
-Crypts? Which variation would be location correct?
-Any more ideas?

Im looking to almost create a grassy background with the Vallis with clumps of it next to the dividers toward the read of the tank and then randomly and sparsely places in the midground as well.

Essentially im looking for suggestions for:
1. Another Background Plant (easy growing with low light needs)
2. Which mosses can I use? I have spare Pheonix Moss, Flame Moss (small amount), Christmas Moss and Java Moss
3. A nice midground plant? I read about a specific Crypt but I cannot find the link now or the specific genus. Should be something I can plant in the substrate.

On the off-chance anyone knows: are there any shrimp I can keep with them which are Biotope correctish?

Hi justissaayman, welcome to UKAPS.
Sounds like an interesting project, you should start a journal, there you'll get loads of helpful tips and be able to share your experience with others at the same time 🙂
Cheerio,
Ady.
