Anyone know how to correctly trim a large Amazon Sword plant as I dont want to kill the plant but could do with reducing its overall size by about 1/3rd

Peel the leaves off...this will reduce the size.

Outer, inner, yellow ones, can someone clarify ?
Outer down to the base of the plant.

Yep, outside in. The new leaves all appear from the centre of the crown, obviously meaning the outer leaves are the oldest.
Depending on how old the leaves are, you might have trouble just peeling/pulling them off without starting to pull the whole plant up. Just get a pair of scissors and snip them off towards the base.
