How am I doing? +Valli's and dwarf grass)

Hi. I've been running tank a couple months now maybe a bit less. Its been going OK. I've got three type of plant growing and was wondering for some advise...

The dwarf grass is growing but spreading slowly. I'm OK with this but just want to make sure I'm doing OK.

The vallis grow like hell but every now and then one or two leaves on the plants decide to go yellow and fall apart. Is this normal? All the Valli's u see in the pics are from three original bunch. Its grown a lot

My tank is 60l its lit at 2wpg. Its hard water, 7.4 pH. All other levels normal.

I feed it tnc every day 1ml and flourish excel 1ml twice a week as I read in places Valli's don't like too much of it.

So..am I doing OK? I'll attach a PIC or two.

Hi Lawrence, you seem to be doing ok no major algae outbreaks, you should add the excel daily or not add at all because it only has a life of 24 or 12 hours so your plants only have a carbon source two days a week I use liquid carbon in a tank with Vallis and no melt, you can trim the yellow leaves off the plant close to the crown to improve how the plant looks. Hair grass is a slow grower IME.

What are these little hard black bits that keep appearing? Surely not fish waste? I only have one fish and five shrimp...

Any pics of the black bits? Maybe easier to offer a diagnosis.

I know this is an old thread but did you find out what the black bits were? Without photos of them I would guess they are the black dots off your heater? I have the same one and half of them fell off after a couple of months leaving small perfectly round black dots on the substrate.........

me too, i used them in water change drums and they would often fall onto the bottom....had me confused for a little while 😕
