Hello.First of all excuse any errors in my English 🙂
Is any of these cheap hob filters able provide enough circulation?
I am starting (restarting) my second tank.It is only little 30l tank and it'll be home for some shrimp and plants.Tank is dosed with easy carbo (glut when carbo runs out) and EI.
Any suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks
Ed

I have the Ocean Free Ultra Slim US-01 HOB filter and it provides a lot of circulation in my 28L. However it's a different circulation than from a spray bar or a lilly bar or even an internal filter. The outlet is much more diffused and it forces the water from high to low were the HoB is and causes a lot of movement in the plants in this area. The plants are pretty stationary at the front but there is a lot of cover in that region. Also you have to clean the HoB quite frequently as the inlet goes straight and unfiltered into the pump. I have a 10ppi sponge zip tied to the inlet for a bit of pre-filtering.

I would say that a HoB filter will provide your tank with more than enough circulation as long as you're not using injected CO2. I think the better HoBs have an submerged outlet that you can use attachments on.
