Hi all,

First of all I'm Tom, I'm from Norfolk. I am 13 years of age!

I actually just stumbled across this forum by accident and saw a couple of truly STUNNING tanks, I mean they blew me away. I am currently a marine keeper with a red sea max 130D but having seen some of these planted tanks I have really taking a fancy too them! 😳

So I've joined and have started to read up, it's quite complicated, and I though marine keeping was complicated! Any general tips would be most appreciated. I would also appreciate a "rough price" for a 45 litre tank, I know it can vary, but maybe a basic price or shopping list.

Thanks,
Tom

Welcome Tom. For tips there are articles, Q&A etc all over the site, plenty to read.

For the 45 litre tank... It can vary 🙂 Really depends on what you're after, an ADA with high end lighting, CO2, external filter set-up will be much pricier than a pets at home kit or similar...

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I am slowly getting to know the VERY basics. If I'm honest I'd obviously rather the best ADA tank with CO2 etc! However I think I would rather go fairly basic to start of with, I would also need to do more research on CO2 as this seems quite a complex subject in my opinion.

I do have a spare 24x12x12 tank which I am tempted to use as my first tank; this seems a good size. I will do further research into what equipment to use, methods of aquascapig and whether I should go high tech or low tech. Do you have any opinions on whether I should go high tech or low tech as a beginner?

Thanks,

I'd use the tank you have if it's not being used. As for high vs low tech, it depends on what plants you want to grow and how much maintenance you want to be doing. CO2 and higher light will also require fertilizers and more maintenance
