Been lurking here a long time so about time I joined.

Have a small interpet 48L 2 years that was got for the kids. No real background in the hobby just a few goldfish in family home that I know now were in a much too small tank. Grandfather kept fish when I was young and I always remember being fascinated by the Neon tetras. Always wanted a tropical aquarium but wasn't really feasible living in apartments and moving a lot. In our home several years now but only got one two years ago because Santa brought one for the kids!

Learned a lot in the first year lost a few fish had cyanobacteria and hair algae outbreaks. Always had an eye to upgrading so after realising the internal filter that came with the tank was crap I upgraded to JBL 901 external. Tank has ran pretty much perfectly since bar when I was on holidays and had a bad hair algae bloom. Timer got switched off and lights were on permanently when I got home!

Wife was the against getting a bigger aquarium so had to do my upgrade by stealth! 48L was on kitchen counter so got a new stand to move it onto. Stand is 60cm wide by 40cm deep so that was the limit of my new tank. Would have liked to have gone wider but I didn't want to push my luck! Few weeks later I ordered a custom optiwhite 60w*40d*60h cm in Seahorse aquariums in Dublin.

Took a good few months deciding and getting everything together so spent a lot of time reading here agonising over plants, stone, wood, equipment and lighting and looking at George Farmers and other videos! Should say big thanks to Geoge probably the biggest influence on the aquacscape I finally attempted. Was countless other journals I got info and influence from too so thanks to the community too.

Got it set up on Sunday and am really happy with it even wife seems to be coming around a bit. Still needs a few more plants I think some more nano anubias between the rocks and the wood needs something else I think? Probably add some frogbit or another floater. Most of the plants are invitro so it hopefully will look a lot better in a few weeks.

Current stock is a few panda corys, assassin snails and amano shrimp. I'll move my other fish over gradually in a couple of weeks. Have 9 neon tetras, 2 SAE and 1 Rainbow Gourami and 3 more pandas. Have to decide then what to do with 48L, kids would like it left set up but wife doesn't want a second tank set up in the house. We'll try and win her around but it might just end up being left set up as a quarantine tank in the shed.

I'll start a thread in journal forum and post more picture and info there.
