Hi Everyone

So I am new to this Forum and I decided to introduce myself.

I have been keeping fish for a little over 15 years, in that time I have kept almost every type of aquarium. Until recently I had a couple of Marine tanks running lovely but decided since I can't plumb in an RO unit, a 15 mile roundtrip to top my tank my tank up and do water changes was getting to be a pain. I had some money from trading in so I bought an aquanano just because I liked the idea of having all the equipment hidden and a black background though I have seen people take the black acryllic out to give a complete square.

I also worked in an aquatic shop for just over 12 years as an assistant manager and I helped setup and maintain quite a few tanks, I have completed several OATA courses on biology, chemistry, husbandry. I'm not going to say I know everything as that is just being narrow minded and naive. I had to learn a lot to troubleshoot people so I learned what I could either from trying it at work or listening to other people and their solutions.

I have always enjoyed planted tanks ranging from my old Sword tank which was just T8s soil and gravel and nothing else and they grew lovely, I also setup many planted tanks at my old work and generally they did well.

After keeping marines for the last 7 years I decided to journey back to where it all began, looking at inspiration I remember eyeing up 3 books by Mr Amano and thinking this guy is not just a genius but his tanks can't help but give you a sense of awe and purpose. I decided I would want to try something like that one day, now I have a bit more money and quite a few years of knowledge behind me I decided to try an iwagumi type tank, the journal will be coming shortly, I don't claim to be a master just inspired by one lol, so if you see anything in the journal that you disagree with or have any suggestions on how I can improve, please divulge and I will take them into account.

Likewise if anyone wants to message me on fish suggestions you are more than welcome . I used to sell everything from neons to freshwater stingrays and some extremely rare catfish including a 2.5 foot specimen of one of the worlds largest varieties of Pleco, I called her Big Burtha lol. I am not so well versed on shrimp though, something else I intend to look into. the same with plants, a good understanding of the well known specimens but a lot of new cultivars and specimens have been found since I was last looking at plants.

I look forward to learning what I can from everyone on this forum.

thanks for reading.

Thanks for the info, I will take a look, we are on a meter and so I have to be a bit careful, I do have my trusty Nitragon for Nitrate and phosphate should all else fails, though a portable RO unit would be handy.
