Hello,
This Christmas my partner kindly got me a voucher for a LFS, and more importantly, the implicit permission to set up a tank!
In my early 20s (14 years ago) I had quite a few set ups, mainly fish focused community tanks, having moved house multiple times, and the joys of the rental market in the UK, fishkeeping hasn't really crossed my mind as viable. But I've now settled down in Edinburgh and am now in a situation where I can have a tank again.
As I was visiting my family over Christmas I took the opportunity to rummage through my old equipment. It was in a bit of a sorry state, but I recovered two tanks (85L and a 60L) and a selection of filters, heaters etc. After getting them home I spent quite a few hours in a (literally) freezing garden cleaning the 85L, and some equipment. The glass is quite scratched and the old T8 Tube is dim, but it holds water so I'm happy.
The plan for this tank is for an Iwagumi-ish set up with a carpet and a few stem plants in the background. I've bought the hardscape, some aquarium soil, upgraded lighting, and a new test kit. The tank is currently undergoing a 'dark start' and I'm itching to get planting, but I'm embracing the delayed gratification and am using this time to learn about plants, and increase my knowledge on water chemistry.
I've got some questions about CO2 and fertilising but I'll post new threads in the relevant areas for that.
I've added a picture of the tank just before the water was added.
