Thought I'd say hello before lurking, I have a 40l Aqua One (previoulsy owned) Amazon swords, frogbit and a Java fern... (now elasticated to a coconut shell) all set in a black gravel substrate, no soil or otherwise. My avatar shows how bad it was when I did it my way, now improving with the input from forums and reading mostly. Completely behind the rabbit dropping/EI/fire extinguisher/DIY ethos which is essentially what brought me here.
I have five copper harlequins doing well and living happy, looking towards getting some shrimp and moss balls quite soon.
Longer term, I would like to learn more about the chemistry and biological side of things... Great joy in watching the pearling and trying to find out whether it was or wasn't desireable, using fermenting CO2 production at the moment with an 18w bulb, I would like to slow everything down a bit, the frogbit is growing so fast I am expecting it to climb out of the tank and walk across the room fairly shortly.
