Hello all, I have been keeping fish on and off now for around 10 years. I first got into fish keeping when I made an initial visit to my local Maidenhead 12 years ago, and was amazed at the variety of beautiful fish in store, styles of tank and fish keeping. It was at this time I decided to give it a go, and purchased my first tank using my pocket money. I started with a 30L and quickly upgraded to a 70L within a month, and a month after that picked up a 160L. As a young and very inexperienced fish keeper I was very liable to mistakes and so I did!
I stopped fish keeping for a few years throughout high school and started again in 2020. I received a 200l tank for Christmas and I’ve never looked back. It was here I started all over again, but slightly older and wanting to learn. I started keeping barbs, and was introduced to aquatic plants through the brilliant guys at my LFS.
I did try my hand with saltwater but found this was very, very, very expensive to upkeep and the return back to freshwater was imminent.
The guys who worked at the local Maidenhead have really been the heart to this journey, giving endless information and advice. We all quickly became friends and I did a stint of working there, learning as much as possible and enjoying my hobby while doing so. I am still eager to learn, hence the joining of the group! Which was actually recommended by one of my friends at the LFS.
I now keep a 288L low tech tank and a black water paludarium.
