I just use a few 300 w heaters on my 400 gallon, i do have them in my sump. This way if one "hangs" it will not cook the water. I think 3 where enough to heat the tank to 30-31 degrees celcius (discus tank).
Or on the pond heater shelf 🙂. There are some heavy duty heaters to find in that area. Even pond heaters to connect to a gass driven water boiler. Or small swimming pool heaters.. Heat is heat as long the thermostat is accurate and reliable it doesnt matter where the heat comes from.
