Looks to me like you waited just a little too long, trimming your cuba-carpet. Letting the carpet get too thick.
Doing that means the leaves appearing after the trim are allready in poor condition, making it more difficult to achieve new growth as fast as you would from healthier parts of the plant.
One of the tricks to a healthy, dense cuba-carpet is to trim quite often, not letting the lower parts become (too) overgrown............it's a matter of "constant gardener", actually 😀
In this case, I would expect new growth to appear soon, though, so patience is likely the best medicine.
