Hair Algae

Hi guys

So got some ludwigia plants in the background and moss in the midground.

Im using ADA AS and have 2x T5 39w on for around a 6 hour period. No CO2 input yet, waiting on my reg to arrive then i can setup the system.

Ive noticed that haur algae appears to be growing on the ludwigia.

Any recommendations?

It might be to much light, but we don't know how big your tank is..... for now start plucking with a toothbrush by twisting the hair algae around it.

Do you have reflectors behind those T5 tubes, because this would double your PAR. Maybe dose (spot treat) the tank with some Excel (Gluteraldehide) a bit and slowly reduce the dosage when thing have calmed down on the algae level.

Yes Martin ive got reflectors.

Do i just add the excel to the tank? or spot dose by placing it directly onto the algae?

Will adding co2 help?

I would spot dose. CO2 will help, but often can give you other problems. Keep it low tech until you know how to grow plants, high tech is more expensive and takes more time.

Ive already got my CO2 kit >.<

Thank you, im going to get a powerhead to assist circulation. ive had a very stable tank until now - the plants im keeping will mainly be either beginner or medium plants.

I got the co2 & lighting to enable me to plant monte carlo as a carpet.

I wont be adding fish for a significant length of time - dont want to risk killing them with co2.

Will be starting with some shrimp to clean thinks up - amano and cherry shrimp.
