Going planted first time, keeping filter alive while changing tank

Hey everyone!

I have a question regarding the filter media in my Juwel Rio 180 (internal filter).

As I intend to go planted for the first time I'm sure I will need some time setting up the new scape and getting everything planted.
Since I will be keeping the internal filter I was hoping to somehow save the filter from 'dying' while I set up the tank and because of this speed up the cycling a bit.

Would it be possible for me to place the filter media in a bucket (with tank water), add the pump and heater and just run it like this for a few days?

Ps. I will be using ADA Aquasoil for my new substrate (if that makes any difference).

The bacteria in the filter will need a food source so add a few bits of fish food to it just to maintain some ammonium on it. You don't the heater but you need the water to flow through the sponges so the bacteria inside have access to the food so the pump is required

Thank you!
