Just set up a 260l hexagon. Filter is Aqueon power filter, 400gph. Substrate is CaribSea complete mixed with peat organic potting soil. Light is marineland 6 watt led strip in whites and blues at 5000K and 3, 4 watt led puck lights, that sit at about 3000K. These lights are dimmable and adjustable in color from violet down to red.

Tank has only been set up for 48 hrs and I woke to this mucous material on the substrate.

Thoughts on what could causing this?

Is that something I should be concerned about? Water is still cloudy as well.

As I understand it its early days in the adaptation process and I think as long as the substrate is suitable which it seems to be this will settle as the eco system matures.Have a look at the tutorial on "Soil substrate and dirted-- " for a insight into your question and maybe a expert will add to this

Is it a slimy blob?? 🙂 Probably a bacterial colony developing and goes away on it's own, you can syphon it out.. Decaying organics can develop this in hours time.. I'm germinating some lotus seeds in a small container with water.. The seeds only while getting soft also develop a slimy stincky white blob in hours, even with a daily water change from the container, it keeps comming back for weeks to come.

No idea if it also could be fungus what you picture shows... Just a guess that it looks more like a bacterial colony.. Take it out, if it is slimy and stinks it most likey is bacterial. 🙂

I did a water change and pulled it out. It has come back in almost no time. I'll keep siphoning it out. Thanks for the read, btw.
