As per the title really. Would be interested in how you would stock a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft temperate tank.

The heating costs of housing South American fish in here was too much so I decided to try something a bit different.

Tank parameters:
  • 6x2x2, about 650L
  • 6.4 ph
  • Temp: 20c
  • plants: mostly epiphytes, limnophila sessiliflora growing at the back which isn’t tall enough to be seen yet, also have monstera and peace lily growing above. I definitely plant to plant this much more heavily with plenty more plants but due to the size it’s quite expensive
  • current fish: 12 denison barbs, 18 Odessa barbs

I like to keep my tanks loosely region specific (I.e plants and fish from Asia in this case). So I’m thinking maybe some other cooler water barbs such as rosy barbs, gold barbs, hill stream loaches and maybe some white cloud minnows. Despite this I am tempted by peppered corys.

There seems to be lots of options for smaller shoaling fish but I am struggling for any kind of larger centrepiece temperate fish.

Give me what you’ve got!

How about Gold Barbs in numbers would look great, they always look and colour up better than in the shops, very tolerant of other fish and safe with plants. Nice aquarium and space btw

Yes I’ve thought about gold barbs. I’ll probably do rosy’s too. And thanks for the compliments, the space is finally getting to how I dreamed of years ago!

Depending on the floor temperature green swords - the tank size would really suit - decent examples are now hard to find. And I personally love all, but not fussy long finned, species of danios. The Giant Danio, a beautiful fish, really colourful in gentler light and with good plant growth. They appreciate floating plants, puts them at ease.
