Uprooting plants underwater without disturbing the environment is a bit of an art but as long as you’re slow, sand is great for that because it settles in very quickly and does not kick up dirt.
Occasionally h2s is released but it does not stay in the water as long if well oxygenated - fish don’t even flinch when that happens.
