First tank

I love it! Natural look, for sure! I certainly would love to see some Cardinals in there!

@BarrWarr very nice looking tank, love the amount of moss that you have in there.

Also that Anubias (i assume) thats to the right of centre with the wavy leaves is really very nice. adds a lot of additional texture to the tank
Many thanks! Yes, the wavy one is Anubias nana Kirin - I like that one too, there’s also a couple on the far left.

Maybe once I get more familiar with everything and more experience, a fish or two might be added.
Totally agree. Slow and steady! Once the tank is mature, you just cant beat the little gems - whether in front of wood or green plants.

Thought I'd update my journal. This tank has gone thorough various different versions in a relatively short space of time I guess and although I liked each one at the time, something was always bugging me and wanting to tweak it.

I was never really sure what I wanted the tank to be tbh, but I have finally settled on a Betta tank as these fish always fascinate me (I also love Pearl Gourami but tank isn't big enough).

So, this the tank as of today (which is not as bright as this in reality). Low tech, just the Betta and plenty of plants and snails. Touch wood, I haven't had any issues at all really with plants melting or algae. I'll possibly gradually build up the leaf litter in time. The Betta looks fantastic shimmering in the shadows, I would like to get some shrimps but not sure how the Betta would behave!

Thanks to everyone who answers all my (often probably daft) questions, it really does help and puts my mind at ease at times.

@BarrWarr, What a nice tank ! Great Job ! 👍

I think the Betta would be fine with some shrimps around unless its starving or really aggressive - your tank is pretty densely planted so plenty of hiding places for shrimplets. I would recommend some decent size cherry shrimps (Neocaridina Davidi) - comes in variety of colors (stick to one color) and they are good janitors.

Cheers,
Michael

This is such a gorgeous tank! I love the final rendition. Very happy to see you going from seeming slightly stressed and unsure to a confident planted tank owner 🙂
