Fidelia squid: Dutch Aquascape 55ltr

IMG_20220108_172942.jpg

So a little update through this is not a good representation of current status of tank...

You will see there has been some significant changes with the most obvious being the addition of ludwigia white!!

You will see from pic that this still in its emersed form and I have a long way to go before there is any luscious white and pink stems. But thought a picture update was appropriate given the controversial location. 😊

Additional plants have been added and removed. This mornings sadly I found that all my ludwigia super red has rotted from base of the stems. I have replanted tops but I suspect this will need to be replaced or changed as healthy stems are looking weak.

I would give picture update of tank currently but I think it is fair to say that until the tank has recovered from trims, replanting and plants fully converted all pics will look a bit bleak...

I was going to post new plant location map but given I have changed alot since last drawn. I'll hold off till things have settled in encase of more changes.

Looks like your tank is filling up with plants.. usual problem that some grow faster than the other and the faster growing start shading the slow plants.

I can't see the Nesea 'Golden' (A. Pedicatella), is it being blocked by the tall plants in front? It actually needs some space as it likes a lot of light, don't let it get crowded out.

Hi Erwin no it has been trimmed and relocated to front left. Alot became stunted/heavy effected by BBA so it's a mix of new and old stems.

My thoughts were to create hieght profiles for the plants like above but I have since changed the cardinalis to create a row that cuts across and planted the ludwigia white in the forground to create a second curtain. The golden will be the second on the left.

Its a bit of a pain the super red melted as its another change that will throw the composition.

The ludwigia white will be paired back to just a few stems, it's planted as is for management purposes given it struggles with converting. I will see which stems will be most successful then I'll move the rest to other tanks.

Just a quick photo update, as it is all change in the tank at the moment.

Been a lot of changes for a variety of reasons with plants being moved to other tanks and others having to be relocated.

Hopefully, I will be able to get a shot at some point with all plants being fully converted.

Anyway hope your guys like the photos.

A quick photo update of tank with a before and after shot of maintenance. I always find it a shame when trimming spoils what is quite a natural/moody aesthetic.

Please do give me some feedback as this layout is very different to what I would normally aim for and maybe the one I work with till maturity for an entry this year.

Anyway here's the shots:

When you spot a plant knowing that if you add it will probably over whelm a scape, but can't resist....

New shots showing the addition of pogostemon stellatus...

Thoughts on the type of pogostemon stellatus? I'm thinking this actually might be a broad leaf giving how it's converting...

wow the Stellatus looks big - take care that it doesn't shade your P. Erectus.

The L. Aromatica - from the earlier photos it was turning purple - now it has gone back to totally green - any idea why? Are you dosing high nitrates?

Hi Erwin,

I'll be honest I'm not sure the initial growth grew in very purple since it has been fading. I did change ferts for a short period as a stop gap but it hasnt regained the colour since I got my usual. I've started dosing more iron recently so hopefully that may support getting some good colour.

So I recently moved house and sadly the scape didn't make it... But time for some thing new!!!

New thread is going to be called....

Dutch 110ltr rummy nose islands

Look forward to seeing you all there for plant and fish details!!! As well as a steady blog on its growth and filling out 😊😊😊

congrats on upgrading from 55 to 110litre! Next step- 240 litres once you run out of space in your 110! 😇

Since you have a Lotus in your tank... i sense you will need to upgrade sooner rather than later!
