Hi, i am wondering about the importance of added fertilisers into planted tanks.

I am planning on using john innes no3 capped with gravel of some sort, in a co2 tank.

Is fert dosing essential? Do the majority of high-tech-ers use ferts?

Is there a handy thread on this sort of thing?

Cheers

Hi Dominic,

Ideally you would want to dose ferts even with a soil substrate because growth rates in hi tech tanks are much quicker than that of the low tech and having both column and substrate ferts from the soil and liquid/dry salt will ensure there are nutrients everywhere for the plant to reach for. Here is a good thread on how to setup a high tech tank: Setting up a 'higher' tech planted tank | UK Aquatic Plant Society

Michael.
