I know excess ferts do not cause algae in a high tech set up but have been wondering do excess ferts have any ill effect ie algae in a low tech tank, or is the only reason low tech tanks aren't dosed with high ferts because it is purely waist-full?

Wasteful* Grrrr auto correct.

So no worry with algae? Just as high tech?

For my low tech affair's.I use Full EI daily dose of NPK for my size tank, once a week rather than frequency for CO2 injected, high energy tank's.
Work's very well and no need to add more = waste.
At end of the week, out of habit,I change 50% of the water and re-dose NPK and traces the next day. Me think's PRIME at water change may affect Iron in trace in negative way, but would be pleased to know I am wrong with this way of thinking.
