EI dosing bottle mixed with dechlorinator?

Hi guys,

I am running out of my Tropica Specialised Nutrition so bought myself an EI dry dosing kit as the Tropica one comes out quite expensive for my 318L tank. I calculated I need to add around 60ml of fert a day with the EI dosing method. As i'm using boiled and cooled tap water that turns out to be quite a bit of tap water that isn't dechlorinated that is being added to the tank each day. Can I add a dechlorinator like prime to the prepared EI dosing bottles of macros and micro nutrients for storage? Or do I need to dechlorinate the whole tank after each EI dose that I give?

Also, I was just wondering as the dose of the EI method is always an excess of nutrients my current photoperiod is 7 hours so can I just increase it to 8 or 10 hours or should I do this week by week slowly by increasing by 30 mins or so in case something goes wrong?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I think boiling the water will remove the chlorine but won't remove much of the chloramine, unless its a 10 ~15 min boil. Either way adding such small amounts to a 300l tank is unlikely to cause any problems.

As above distilled water is a cheap easy option but lots of people use tap water and don't report any negative effects.

If you're increasing the light period, do it slowly and wait a few days before before the next increase. Maybe 15 mins every 3 days.

Tap water could also affect the solubility of your fert solution if your water is on the hard side

Correct. although for the standard APFUK mix non of the solubility limits are over 15% so cant see it would would be an issue

I use boiled water if I have no RO and @ian_m has used boiled water for years 'if' my memory serves me correct

I use boiled tap water and never had issue but my water is around 120 ppm GH and have no chlorine. You could age your water 1 or 2 days open lid, chlorine evaporate overtime and faster at higher temperature. Then you could boil it to make sure they is no bacteria alive in the aged water.

Thanks for the helpful responses everyone. I have already made a 500ml bottle of macro and micro ferts so I will buy distilled water the next time these run out but for the time being I was just wondering if I could add some seachem prime to the bottles of fert already made with boiled and cooled water for peace of mind?
Thanks

In hot weather when the water company's use chloramine for water treatment it would provide peace of mind if nothing else, as it does take longer to boil chloramine off then chlorine, if you have a filter system for drinking water which has a carbon filter just use that water and boil it, let it cool and your good to go
