Eheim 2227 wet/dry filter. Help needed.

So i'm in the process of setting a low tech planted tank up.

Having purchased a leaking Eheim 2227, one new gasket and some vaseline later and it's water tight.

However, I cannot get the wet / dry function to work at all. It's between the 100 - 120cm height needed but still no joy.

I can't even run it as a standard filter as the flow rate is stupidly low in this form.

Any help / thoughts / suggestions?
 
Is the polystyrene float in tact / seals at the side air tight? I had the 2327 and ended up renewing the float if ever the wet dry function stopped working even after a clean. Apart from that I'm out of ideas..
 
I've given up, reselling the filter and have bought an Eheim Profession 3 350.

Cheers though.
 
I think I just saw it on ebay - I'm tempted but the floats £30. Ponder ponder - I did love my 2327 til I burned out the element. All the best
