Hi All,
Sorry for the long post - looking for some group wisdom!

I still have my 2078 which I've had for a very long time. I have a number of issues with it, which I'd like to solve if possible:

Issue 1:
The head fills with water - this isnt necessarily a massive issue as the DC electrics are sealed against water and it doesnt leak externally but I'd like to fix. There is no visible damage to the head even when I open it up. Replacing all seals didnt fix it. I figure water must be getting in there some other way. I was thinking that either silicone sealant or glue gun should solve it inside the head if I could figure where its getting in. Any ideas on where to look/what to do?

Issue 2:
Still on the original impeller which is fine as long as I keep it clean. I'd like to put a new one in, so i could have a known working spare. I did buy a replacement but I never got it working, it just flashes the lights up and down and dies.

Issue 3:

Never primes. I have to plug in a pump into the inlet in the tank and push water through it until its running.

If I can't solve issues 1 and 2 above I was looking at replacement filters - the fx2 looks ok but won't fit my 16/22 pipework and I dont have space/inclination to replace with the fluval stuff. The aquael 2000 also looks good but spares/customer services issues puts me off and dont have enough height for an Oase of equivalent size/throughput.

It's obviously well beyond any warranty and Ehiem appear to have non-existent presence/customer services in the UK but I wondered if there is an option to get the head repaired?

Thanks in advance...

I can't really help with any solutions but I have the same problem with my old eheim. It's been running 24/7 since 2004 and for over a decade of that it was salt water, which is far rougher on filters than even our normal rock hard tap water that it's been used with since. I'm on the first impellor and the only thing I've replaced is the seal once.
The water ingress into head and the non priming I think are possibly linked. This is the same problem I have (as well as a leaking seal) and I think it's because there is an air gap somewhere stopping the syphon effect. The head fills with water and it slightly leaks when it isn't running and under pressure, as soon as it is on and going the problem stops.

This would have been easier to help with a few years ago because John Allan aquariums distrubuted eheim in the uk and had an Aladdins cave of spares going back decades but unfortunately they retired and I'm not sure if the new company took eheim on or not. You could try them, their details are at the bottom of their page John Allan Aquariums | Fish Tank Specialists Since 1963 but the company used to be in Bury St Edmunds and it would have been a lot to move to the new location. They might know of someone who deals with eheim now though, knows the older filters or who bought the old stock.

Try here:

Hi - thats where I bought the replacement impeller from a few years ago, I tried to contact them about it but I got no response, hence why I was looking to see if there was an official eheim company rep in the UK I could use.

Internal head leaks can be notoriously difficult to diagnose. I had similar issues with a Tetratec. I decommissioned it in favour of an Eheim Classic 350. Much less to go wrong with the Classics. Good luck with sorting it.

Thanks all - really appreaciate the options. I'm going to take the head off again when I've got a spare hour or so and see if there's anything I can do to remedy the leaking. I also want to try another new impeller (what are the chances of a faulty new impeller!?!)
