Doubts about my plants

Hello!
I need some help about my plants. I'm starting a new tank (about 60L). it was a week ago and I've been noticed that some spots (like dust) are sticking on the leafs and they're dying. I don't believe that's a filtration problem (but maybe).

in my setup i'm using:
Tropica substrate with a inert layer - mbreda (brazilian brand)
some rocks of river
an eheim filter (hang-on)
Co2 cylinder + excel.
lighting T5 24W (6000k) + LED RGB

the tank have no fishes yet. only some snails

anyone knows what's going on?

thanks in advanceRsdQ8ZH.jpg

I think the leaves turning transparent is a lack of co2 (with no fishes you can turn this up quite a bit to help establish plants)

You did not mention if you are using any ferts? I think leaves dying and turning black is a lack of nutrients.

Some of the "dust" looks like diatoms, again increased co2 should help with this, if not reduce co2 a bit and add amano shrimp or oto's.

What i the litre per hour rating of the filter? you should be aiming for around 500 - 600 litres per hour.

Ok. so I'll increase the co2 a little bit. But the drop checker is green... :wideyed:

About the ferts:
yes! I have the Tropica's liquid fertilizer but i didn't start to use it because i'm already used the same fertilizer (in capsules) on the setup.
I thought I'd start using liquid fertilizer after 10 days :banghead::banghead:

the filter is a liberty 130 - 570L per hour (with some sera siporax mini within it)

thank you!

Do the holes go all the way through or is it just on the surface? It could be iron or potassium deficiency. I has this issue a while back.

How long has the tank been setup for?
How long are your lights on for? Same goes for the Co2?

Hi!
the tank has been a week...

the lights are on by eight hours/day. the co2 is turned (on/off) one hour before/after the lights.

I would only have a 5/6 hour light window while the tank is new. Then ramp it up once it's mature. Do you have a drop checker in the tank? If so what colour is it when lights are on and turn off?

Yes i have one. When the lights are on it's a light green color (sometimes seems yellow) and when the lights are off it's a dark green color.
Have you think i should decrease the photoperiod?

The Co2 seems ok, I would definitely reduce the photo period. To give you an idea my lights come on at 5:30pm to 10:30pm as I get home from work at 9pm and my Co2 comes on/off an hour before lights on/off. My Co2 with pollen diffuse is around 1 bubble every 2 seconds but kinds only a 30litre tank.

Are the holes on the top of the leaf or is it like a pin price through the leaf?

I also have my diffuser directly under my sponge filter so the Co2 bubbles get trapped underneath it so they fully dissolve 🙂

the holes on the top of the leaf...
yes! i'm too. the diffuser is under the outflow. So, the bubbles goes directly to the filter first.

well, i'll decrease the lighting period and dosing the fertilizers.

hey! ...it's better make use of ferts with lights on or off?

Can you rub it off? New tanks will 99% get something called brown diatoms, I'm currently having the same issue on my tank.

I use easy life products such as iron/carbon/profito and I dose 1 ml every 2days. I always dose when the lights are on. Im not sure if it makes to much difference but that's what I've always done.

I'm a newbie here, so don't follow me tips without supervision... lol. I have little experience, but I'm sharing my views anyway.

This happened to me a few months ago. It was (still is) my first tank ever and I started with plants right away. I wasn't using fertilizers, because I though the substrate would be enough... so I'm with @richard brown and @Planted Bows, reduce lighting period and start with the water fertilizers.
