Does this explain what's happening

i've had a bit of drama with my floating plants, i first got some amazon frogbit which i loved but then it died off due to an algae and irregular schedual of dosing fertiliser. so the algae went away and i ordered a second amount of frogbit which again slowly died off. a friend sent me some water lettuce over and his was huge !!! however then over time my frogbit has died off but so did the big water lettuce. i'd been dosing 0.5 flourish daily which i've not found out only has micro nutrients much to other statements on their website so obviously im fuming. so now i have a tank full of little water lettuces and two amazon frogbits that are still alive. my filter isn't pointed at my plants so it shouldn't be causing any problems with root growth so is the fact that my fertiliser is only micro nutrients explain why i only have very little plants ??

Yes. Plants need food. And they need a varied diet(macros and micros).
