Do plants pearl even when they aren't healhty?

Today when I came home and look into my tank, I see O2 bubbles coming from the plant, but my Monte Carlo isn't looking healthy.
Do even unhealthy plants pearl at some moment, does pearling has any relation to plant health?
I couldn't help it, but it put a smile on my face seing those pearls coming from the plants.....

As far as i know pearling is a function of amount of saturation with O2, I know i never see it, i figure it's because the size of my tank, compared with plant mass.
