Difference between standard clear filter pipes and Eheim/JBL ones?

Hi all

I buy clear tubing for my filters, no brand, just the ones sold at the LFS. Lately I have noticed I have leaks in some pieces of the equipment (a CO2 inline diffuser and the outlet of a filter). The leaks are always in the nuts used to secure the tubing. The thing is that when I have this problem, I just have to change the clear tubing by a green Eheim or grey JBL one and it works perfectly. They are actually more difficult to fit and the nut cannot be screwed so easily. Additionally when I compare the clear ones and the JBL/Eheim ones, having the same internal and external size, the JBL/Eheim seem more solid and heavy.... so maybe ugly but better I guess.
Any experience?

Blame American's with their silly outdate measurement system that even the inventors of the system have ditched. It probably is just a quality issue with the German's being stricter on their manufacturing.

Edit
5/8" = 15.87mm
7/8" = 22.22mm

Looks like the German's are producing to the American market and are using outdated measurement systems.

I recently changed my eheim running for LSF 16/22 clear, it looked good but like yours was leaking from around the sealing nuts. My observation was the issue is caused by the manufacture material. The LFS stuff had a slightly sticky feeling and when doing up the lock nut instead of sliding and screwing on top of the tube the stickiness actually caused the tube to be pushed off the fitting. Not really visible until you closely examine it, returning to eheim instantly cured the problem.

Hi papa_cee, this is also my guess. I have checked the internal and external diameters and they are exactly the same. This is why I think it is a matter of the kind of material. My clear ones are more rigid than the branded ones, but the branded ones are quite sticky and adapt very well when inserted on the equipment.
