Damages on shells

Hi!

I bought 6 of horned nerite snails 4-5 weeks ago and since 1-2 weeks they are starting to show damages on their shells. :(
I have pH around 6,8 and maybe that is not high enough? Do I need to add some calcium to the water? I have saved some eggs shells if that is an option, or should I buy something in the fish store instead?
How can I help them?
Susanne

The PH is fine as it is, just don’t go any lower. You can supplement some food for it or look for a specific food.
Alternatively yes you could add some form of shell that will dissolve.

I’m not an expert on snails i fact I barely know anything, but the above should hopefully help.

It is thought that an acidic PH can dissolve a snails shell, so perhaps that’s what’s actually happening in the case of your snail? Unless you have something in your tank that’s managing to chip away at its shell, like a loach or pea puffer
