Hi,

I am currently using the evergrow full spectrum lights from my old marine tank.

However these lights are fully programmable and I can adjust the intensity of blue and white light completely.

I currently have the lights on 100% white light for 7 hours and then 1 hour of 5% blue light in the evening (just for pleasure).

The lights PAR readings are shown in the link above.

My tank is 24" deep, and I have done plently of research on LED light fixtures for planted tanks, however the PAR reading at 24" always seems to be around 20 PAR, which is really low!

Do you think these lights will be fine in the long run?

I am getting great growth from my rotala and my HC seems to be growing, however the carpeting process is really slow ( however this could be due to the fact I think my shrimp seem to uproot it quite a lot.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks.

So 20 is the new normal now? I think that's too low.

I've been in this hobby for about 8-9 years. The first time I've heard about "you should use lower light" was from Tom Barr. For HC, it seems he recommends 40-50. Again, this is from a guy who advocates using low light. So if he uses 40 for HC, logically, that is probably the lowest level that still provides good result.

(Please notice he called 40 micromoles "low light".)

It seems I quoted Tom a lot today.

So the PAR readings for my light in the link above are too high?

I've heard a lot about 80 PAR for HC, however I'll look at the links and do some more research! Thanks.
