CRS tank - which substrate?

Question one of my planned CRS only tank!

Tank will be:
Substrate colour - black
30ltr
Lightly / moderately planted with a few non-demanding plants - moss, nana, sword, located around a central piece of bog wood.
CRS only
Tap / current tank water = pH 7.5.
(Ideally don't want to use RO water if pos.)

I've read that ada aquasoil is very good, but can be problematic re ammonia spike, cloudy water etc (& I'm not an expert at this, so the more straight forward the better!).
Eco-complete sounds like a decent alternative?
Had a look at nature soil, but they say it's more brown than black?
I guess I'm only suggesting these as they reduce the pH, not specificaly for plant requirements. Should I just use normal substrate & reduce the pH by some other means?

Cheers

OK, looked about a bit & seen some other threads (& am a bit 😳 )

Colombo florabase sounds good.

Cheers

Im hoping to try it out in the future too for the purpose of keeping the Ph down for some nice crs variations.
Any clues as to whether it leeches anything to start with or is it ok from the go?

I have used Naturesoil and Florabase now and shrimp do great in both 🙂

I've just started to use Naturesoil in my new shrimp tank. Only downside is I'm using the larger grain size and I think I could do with capping it off with a much smaller black sand or something.

At least you saved the extra tenner the fine stuff would cost you 😉
I was equally disappointed with the grain size of the Flora base for a nano!

If you're using non-demanding (and mainly rhizome) plants would you be best using an inert substrate just to protect your CRS (they're expensive little critters after all!) and concentrating on water column dosing with maybe root tabs for the rooted plants?
JUst a thought to try and save you a few quid! 🙂
