Cory Sterbai odd colour and behaviour

I have one Sterbai left from a group I bought many years ago and its changed colour in the last few days from brown spots etc to blackish and the orange pectoral colour seems to have gone, the body looks a bit pink especially between head and dorsal fin. The fish is between 5 and 7 years old There is also one peppered cory, also a survivor and they ignore each other entirely, that is until the last couple of days when Sterbai is following peppered. The Sterbai is normally a recluse but has also become more visible when the lights are on.
My theories are the Sterbai is either ill, perhaps an infection, or less likely, attempting breeding. There are no aggressive tank mates or illnesses in the tank. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

No ot doesn’t does it, always called them that as thats what they were sold as...and it looked much more like a Sterbai until recently. Weird, obviously it can’t change soecies, wish I had an old photo...

Definitely not a sterbai and more likely a leucomelas or a similar species. I’d rule out delphax as they have a longer snout. In regards to its behaviour it’s probably due to only having one, corydoras are shoaling species and love to be with their own kind. Other than that it looks very healthy.

cheers

Wìthout any visible signs of illness think like Connort2 is saying a solitary cory of whatever spc. is likely very unhappy fish. Similar to Clownloachs who like to live with groups. I would try to purchase some chums for this fellow .Hoggies identification looks likely

Thanks for the input, as I said this is the last of a group and I don’t want more, it’s been alone and antisocial for years since its mates died which is a shame but no point repeating the cycle. The very recent change in colour and the fact it is socialising for the first time in years with a similarly single but less obviously depressed peppered Cory it’s shared a tank with for years and ignored is the change I’m questioning but without a before and after photo or any less subtle evidence I guess it’s hard to draw any conclusions. I have added a few more fish so maybe that’s perked it up.
