Controlling water pump speed

Having finally found the right converter for my Octo VarioS 6 pump, it works a treat - but is probably more powerful than I need for the flow I'm after, even if I revert to the 24v converter. Will find out for sure when I get it fitted.

If it is indeed too poweeful, would it be possible to fit the equivalent of a dimmer switch into the power cable to reduce speed? Obvs I could get a smaller pump but I quite like the idea of having a pump with lots of power in reserve for future tank upgrades

Am I correct to assume you have this pump in a sump?

Then you do not really need another controller dimmer to regulate turnover.

Valve closed you will have the full turnover to the tank. Open the valve a bit then it will run a part of this back into the sump and less to the tank.
This way it's very easy to regulate and fine-tune the main turnover to the tank.

You can pwm the pump, using an ssr (solid state relay), and signal generator
