CO2 Regulators - a cautionary tale

If this helps one person, its been worth writing it:-

I've been plagued for months now with irregular CO2 control, never being able to get a constant bubble rate no matter what I do and using alot more CO2 than I should be using - I've been blaming it on my CO2 Art regulator.

I've never bothered to release the gas valve etc when attaching my regulator to the bottle (like you're supposed to) so put my 'broken' regulator down to this. Very recently, I decided to buy a new regulator from CO2 Art (a slightly better model) and fitted it (correctly this time) to my bottle.

On checking the piping and blowing through it I find that my non-return valve is leaking ! It's one of those type that split in the middle and it was loose (hence the gas loss). As soon as I tightened it up and hooked everything up, immediately I have stable CO2 bubbles like I've not had in a long time.
