help members.

i have read lots about co2 & flow so came up with this idea of using an air stone and newjet mj 1700 pump, it in volves the pump running from the bottom corner connected to this is a 22mm pipe running upto the brace bar and then a 90 bend then running along the back wall of the 5ft tank every 2" there is a 5.5 mm hole so this becomes the spray bar, it points down half way to the tank to give co2 time to act with the water and its giving great flow, i will check how much by connecting a pipe and jug and then count the time it takes to fill to a set leval.but looking at it i would say its more that 10x flow

instead of buying up atamizer i came up with drilling a 5mm hole just above the flow outlet of the mj1700 and i inserted a 45 air bend fitting and then airstone up from the bend about 3", the passing flow has only 5-7mm to flow round the stone and it gives just as much mist as atamizers do.

the other idea i have is to wire the pump in with the jbl proflora control so the pump only comes on when the proflora control adds co2 being as i will keep discus i think the flow would be way to much all the time.

if members like this idea i will add pics.

at the mo its going to be a blue one but i will change it once i am happy with it all, but what do you think to the idea ben

just be careful if your planning on keeping a planted tank via co2 and discus. Discus are specialist fish and are less tolerant to co2 than other fish meaning its harder to get the balance right. I ended up stunting some of my discus because my water parameters favoured the plants rather than the fish. if you still want to continue i would reccomend getting adult fish to start off with as they will be more tolerant :)

hi krazypara.

i used to sell discus fish for a living over 8 years ago, and i used to have full planted tank then with co2 using the jbl proflora, but things have moved on with adding co2, like up atamizers ect.

as for stunting discus, you have to remember discus are a soft water fish and in the wild they live in blackwater lakes and steams where the nutreinats can be high cos of the lack of water movement, in the far east they run water dirrect from rivers, i do think and its just my thinking that stunted discus are down to water changes and diet and genetics. i have seen 3" fish par up and breed.

they like to feed alot and i have 8 adults and 2 sub adults. in the fish house ready to move back in the main tank.

hi foxfish.

i did try that and found it made the pump sound dreadull. but nice idea but not for me.
