I learnt this lesson today as I watch a bacterial bloom grow in one of my tanks (one with no livestock). Doing a waterchange yesterday after chopping some soft dog treats, I noticed tiny bits of treat floating out from under my fingernails (being female they tend to be relatively long). I carried on as I was curious as to what would happen and lo and behold I woke up to a bacterial bloom this morning. I had washed my hands, but obviously not scrubbed my nails! Thought this small lesson might be useful for someone else.
