Christmas towns?

I was wondering if any of you might be able to suggest any Christmassy towns in the U.K.
We will be travelling with the car to Portsmouth in early December, last year we went to Winchester and we thought it was the most atmospheric town we have come across so far.
Any suggestions for places that offer a nice Dickensian feel for Christmas?

Winchester is hard to beat! I really like Shrewsbury but it’s a trek from Pompey.

York and Skipton put on great Christmas market days, Dickensian but not sure which, remember Skipton few years ago back with canal boats lit up side of pub. Bit far up North from Portsmouth though

Thanks guys, we don’t mind driving up north. Guernsey has a 35mph speed limit so it is good to give the can a nice run.
