Choosing the right filter for a 120P

Hi all! I'm starting to get a list together for what I need to buy for my 120P that I plan to build in the next few... years.

I'm starting early as I want to try and get second hand parts so making a list means I can keep an eye out for good bargains and store them.

I'm leaning towards Eheim as I currently use one and they seem well made and are readily available second hand but I'm open to suggestions.

There doesn't seem to be a single filter solution from Eheim whilst maintaining the recommended 10x tank size flow per hour, do I need 2 filters? I'm thinking it's best to avoid the thermo (T) filters as I can get the inline heaters that should do the job and are likely more reliable?

Any advice appreciated!

he inline heaters that should do the job and are likely more reliable?
not so sure on that one - there are reports every year (for as long as these heaters have been produced) of inline heaters running amuck & overheating tanks, unfortunately they seem to "stick on" rather than off.
I've seen rather fewer reports of the same issue with Eheim Thermofilters (but that may also reflect numbers of sales) - I wanted to switch over to the Eheim thermofilters but they seem to have gone off the North American market.
I won't put the only available inline heater on my tanks as the company has consistently denied any issues in their product (for as long as it's been out), in cases where individuals have sent the failed product back to the manufacturer & manufacturer has (many months later) agreed there was a product malfunction, reparation is minimal.
I'd not care about the (lack of) reparation if the manufacturer would actually concede to product issues & step up product quality, attempt correction at manufacture level ...

If you do use an inline heater, it will impact filter flow.

I'd be inclined to use two filters as that will give you more flexibility.
If you do pick up the tank in advance of actually using it, be aware that tank warranty generally only applies for time post-sale not time of use as silicon sealant is subject to drying under storage conditions.
(eg keep tank in a temperature controlled area that is slightly damp/cool rather than dry/hot - this is especially a consideration if tank has been used, then broken down & stored)

An exciting project for sure 😀
