I bought what I thought was 6% chelated iron from AliBaba.

The label was in Chinese but someone kindly translated it for me and it turns out I bought a trace mix, not just iron.

The label said - DTPA Chelated Multi-Elements

Iron 6.1%, copper 0.26%, manganese 2.5%, zinc 1.3%, boron 1.1%, molybdenum 0.25%, cobalt 0.03%, all of the above are pure element contents, chemical method.

It also said it dissolves completely in water.

I don’t want to make too strong a solution and I don’t know how much of this stuff to mix with some amount of water.

I would be most grateful for any tips on how to use this product now that I have it.

I have a good little scale that measures in milligrams to 4 decimal places so measuring the powder won’t be a problem.

Thats pretty close to Solufeed Sodium Free TEC-SF percentage for Iron (Fe). So if you use the IFC calculator and select and dose 6.6% less than the mass advised for Solufeed Sodium Free TEC-SF for your tank and regime you will be on target for Fe and the other elements are within an acceptable order of magnitude for your plants IMO.

Or post you tank details and regime and one of us will work out the maths for you with IFC.

I wasn't certain about your tank size or dosing, but here's how it would work:

Add 7.76 grams of this micronutrient into 500 ml of water, then dose 20 ml per 50 gallons (189.27 liters). This will give you the following results:

Fe 0.1
Mn 0.04
B 0.018
Zn 0.021
Cu 0.0042
Mo 0.004
Co 0.0005

Thank you so much. As it happens there are several tanks, all different sizes. So this is very helpful.

I sincerely appreciate the offer. Math and I have always had a very adversarial relationship 🙂.

I will have a look at the calculator - but I only have MAC OS or IOS - I don’t think it is compatible.
