Hi
I'm in the process of setting up my first planted tank. I have a fluval Roma 90. I got it from a friend who had it set up with horrible multicoloured gravel. I want something a bit more natural. I thought I'd give moler clay a try so I bought some tesco cat litter. I've washed it and put it into my tank so that I have the clay around the back to plant and an area of play sand at the front which will not be planted for my corys to root around in. I was thinking that the red of the clay and the white sand clash a bit. I have some fine 3mm natural colour gravel left from another tank. would i be ok to put a thin layer of that over the clay?

Thanks
Steve

You can, but what you'll find over time is that the gravel will migrate under the clay since it's denser. If you don't mind that, go for it (or put in a divider).

thanks for the quick reply. I thought that might happen but I don't mind them mixing eventually. It's either that or I forget about the sand. What do you guys use to keep sand and other substrates separate?

Thanks
Steve
