Bogwood Prep

I have managed to get some large lumps of bogwood - I have them soaking in boiling water, how long should i soak them to remove the tannins, I'm worried about starting my tank and the tannins/ yellowing of the water robbing my plants of light,

Hi Mark, welcome to the Forum by the way!

I had a few pieces of similar size soaking for a week before they sank, and at that time they were still leaching tannins. Even several weeks later and lots of water changes later they still gave off some reddish colour to the water. The massive piece I had also kept getting fungus on it and started smelling like rotten eggs so eventually I took it out.
