Biomedia cycling

hello

If i put some biomedia in a bag and just put it the tank, so as to be ready for new tank and filter for cycling will this get bacteria or does it have to go in the filter?

Hi
It will do it as long as is good water movement arround it.It is not necessary to put it in filter.I always trow a handfull of gravel from an existing tank if I dont have mature media to put in it.Along with the plants (lots of bacteria on them too ) enough to jump start the cycling .

Ok cheers, i took sone out my other filter too now
