Hi there

I have very recently noticed a small hole/pit on my Betta fish's head only this afternoon. From doing some research online I cant distinguish exactly what is. I suspect it is hole in the head disease but seek some clarification from others who may be a little more experienced in this illness. I have read online that it could be it's sensory outs but this looks bigger than what I've researched. The picture I have added looks darn more impactful that in real life. The fish seems responsive and curious, isn't showing any signs of stress although the Betta was introduced only a couple weeks ago whether this may have anything to do with the potential hole in head disease?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I have already purchased a treatment and it will arrive on Saturday which I will begin then.

Regards

My only experience with hole in head is with discus fish, and the hole is very pronounced and alarmingly deep. I can't see from the picture if the hole extends below the scales?

Could it be surface damage from something sharp in the tank?

Thanks for the speedy response. I tried to attach a video but it won't allow me. Here is another angle of the hole. From looking at it more it almost appears as though it's literally a scale that has come away. What do you think? I have a bonsais tree covered in ball moss but there are extruding branches that could have potentially poked him? Other than that there are no sharp objects. Here is my tank see what you think if there is anything else in there that could have potentially caused the damage.

On further response the original image does make the hole appear deeper than in real life, it doesn't appear to be deeper than the scales.

Fish lose scales through physical damage, hopefully it is nothing worse. Keep an eye on it and if the fish shows signs of illness post more pictures. Good luck!

Thanks for the response, would you recommend I still put a treatment into the tank just in case as a precautionary? I can't imagine it'll do no harm just to keep all bases covered? The treatment I bought is attached.
