Looking for some advice for my sons tank. We think he has whitespot (see picture) and hes ran a course of AquaCare Anti-Fungus & Whitespot which does not appear to have had any impact this time but has worked previously. He has shrimp in his tank so was a little concerned about dosing too high. What would you recommend as the best shrimp and snail safe treatment?

I am not sure that is whitespot.

I had something similar with my phantom tetra as seen below. Does this ring true for you as well?

Does look similar you what you had and I did read that thread after posting doh!

What did you do to remedy in the end, just turn up the flow or did you increase temps at all? Not sure he can increase the flow, running a biomaster 600 at max!

Nothing. I monitored it, and upped the water changes to twice a week temporarily.

The nature of Lymphocystis is that it comes and goes, and really just ensuring your environment is tip top seems to work. The fish I have does exactly this, one days its there for a week, and then it wont be there for 3 weeks and then back again. All other health signs of the fish remain normal. And all other 8 Phantom Tetras do not have this issue - it something specific to this fish. No doubt it will have a bearing on longevity, but he is happy for now.

Increasing temp does nothing for white spot anyway so keep your temps where they are. And my advice is to just monitor closely and be prepared.

I too suspect it isn't white spot, my advice would be to run a UV filter on the tank, All Pond Solutions sell a pretty useful internal filter/UV for a bout £35, ideal for a small to medium sized tank, not much of a filter as such, but effective as a UV if the filter is just a supplement to a decent filter, as is your case. I find generally despite its modest price clears pathogens from the water fully within a week, obviously an ill fish is more of an issue, but at least it will stop it becoming a contagion. Best of luck there.
