I am going to design a 45P aquascape for my sister. It will be a low - medium tech tank. It might have CO2. I know for a tank of this size Fluval 107 and Eheim classic 250 are best options.

But for my sister. cleaning, prime canister filters will be an almost impossible task. So a HBO filter is the only option. When it comes to HOB filters I read the review of Aqueon Quietflow 50, Fluval C4 and AquaClear 50. Which one of these HOB filter are best?

For a 45P with a HOB filter, I'd go with the AquaClear 50. It has great filtration capacity, customizable media, and is easy to maintain. Fluval C4 is solid too, but the multi-stage design means more parts to clean. Aqueon QuietFlow 50 is okay, but not as good in terms of media flexibility and longevity. AquaClear 50 is the best balance of performance and simplicity for your sister!

Thank you sir. I will go for AquaClear 50

It's got to be the <Hygger HG099> at this point in time. Everyday Aquarist did a <review on YouTube> and reckoned it was just about the quietest HOB on the market with some very exceptional novel design features. The pump sits inside the water so it is very unlikely to leak, water is drawn up to a chamber on the top that could be used to place specific media (Purigen etc.) or even to grow plants, then it cascades quietly through a series of well designed baffles into and around a large media chamber. It then makes it's way over a very deep waterfall lip into the aquarium, and for this reason, even if the water level drops considerably, it remains almost silent. I have had one in my Amazon basket for ages and to be honest I am just looking for an excuse to get it. Hygger have really astounded me as a company. Their <HG999 lights> (with timer/controller) are incredible. Grab a <Begondis 45P> tank off Amazon, some Fluval BioStratum and a decent heater (Hydor Theo or Interpet Deltatherm) and it's happy days. It wasn't like this a few years ago - the hobby has really come on leaps and bounds.

Some HOB also require priming as the water needs to be lifted above the top of the aquarium, so you might want to research that a little. I think I've read somewhere on here about self priming ones, so perhaps search the forum as well.

Yes but unlike canister filters priming HOB filters isn’t difficult. You just have to fill it with water before switching it on

Those lights, I know she will inconsistent with lighting and CO2. I will have smart switches that can be controlled with smartphone and will set the schedule. Just like the way did with 2 of my Aquascape
