Been given an old tank

Just been given an old tank and metal stand. The tank is a clear seal 60x30x30, Ive filled it to test for leaks and can't see any scratches. The lid and light are very old looking, not even sure if the light works yet. The stand seems sturdy enough but I'm thinking about covering it somehow, it came with a piece of plywood to fit between tank and stand that is tatty.

Has anyone any ideas for covering the stand?
Should I buy some glass to cover the top of the tank and forget about the lid?
What about the lighting?

Sorry about the basic questions but new to this and working on a very tight budget hence the free tank

I'd get a piece of polystyrene or similar to sit the tank on. It helps to spread the weight evenly and prevent any possible stress cracks in the glass.

The easiest option for covering the stand would be to stick a sheet of cloth over it. You could also fix some ply sheets to it, and cover/paint these as you wish.

If you're worried about evaporation, get the piece of glass. You could go for open topped, if you'd prefer. Light wise, the one you have should do the job. Maybe a new bulb to freshen things up a bit.

Chuck some soil in, gravel on top, then plant the hell out of it!

Polystyrene sounds a good idea thank you for the tip. Think I'll start off wth a cloth cover as this sounds cheaper but like the idea of ply, may have a go at that when I have saved some more money.

I'm not worried about evaporation but fish jumping out! !! So I'll get some glass for the top.

I can't wait to start planting, I've got an idea in my head, if I'm feeling brave enough I'll post the finished tank on the forum
