Balancing a ph controller with a reactor

I've recently started using a milwaukee controller on my tank which has been just great. I had been running an fx4 with a separate co2 line and diffuser. I have since changed to a fluval 407 with a yidao reactor that I already had (US 55gal tank). With the diffuser, I could get a 1.0ph drop within 1 hour of startup. The massively increased surface agitation was also able to gas off the co2 within about 2 hours at the end of the day. Now with the reactor and smaller filter, it seems to take about 2 hours to saturate in the morning. I am also thinking of turning the co2 off 2 hours early rather than 1 because it doesn't fully degas overnight. I'm using the steel pipe set with the skimmer to help with gaseous exchange vs the fx4 blasting the surface. Does this line of thinking seem correct?
