Auto dosing

Hi All,

Continuing my journey of gadgets (!) I now have the Chihiros Dosing Pump. (I know, I know. I just can't stop myself).

Now I have the capability, is it better to dose/spread ferts throughout the day, or just all in one big hit just before lights come on, etc.?

I’m dosing EI using auto dosing pumps. Adding macros just upon lights turning on and then micros 2 hours later - every day. Used whole weekly dose, divided by 7 and ensured that daily dose concentration is achieved by dosing 20lm of solution. The bigger dose the more precise it is. Using this method for 7 years now.

It does work for me. Currently I have quite soft water and pH is not going above 7. But this also worked for me in very hard water with pH above 8.
With auto douser you can spread the doses 12 hours apart if really needed.

Yep, that’s right. Not sure if it makes any sense but I’m using strong Fe chelates like DTPA and EDDHA.

Oh, and I’m injecting CO2 too. So at the time of the dose pH is about 6. So I think all this combined makes it working.

I daily dose my ferts daily, around 30 minutes before the lights come on to give it time to distribute around the tank. I don't have separate macro/micro so I can't comment on that.

Thanks everyone - as always.

I am using TNC Complete as my fert. I does (20ml) of this complete all-in-one fert around 07:00. But I am going to change that based on comments here to 14:30 which is 30 minutes before photoperiod. (Not sure whether dosing 8 hours before lights on is actually inefficient?).

My new aquarium is 72 days old, and suspecting there is an underlying imbalance. My Siamensis 53B seems to be yellowing and getting some algae. I will send decent info and photos later. I know 72 days is not mature, but my spidy senses are tingling.

I thought I was done, but now I'm thinking.

May as well get auto water change hooked up to RO unit with digital tap mixer for TDS. Don’t forget a UPS for battery backup for the whole system… 💸

It's all about concentrations and chances of interactions.

With AIO which tends to be lean dosing, the chances of interactions are much lower, where as Macro and Micro solutions are normally at higher concentrations esp if going down EI route so interactions are more likely.

I bought an ADS DP4 from AliExpress for 42 euros (coupons, Euro 2024 promotion, etc.). Now it is 57 euros. It has 4 channels, wifi, and works fine for now. I dose macro hour before lights, micro early in the morning. And when I dosed iron, I dosed it somewhere in between.
