Are these roots okay?

Hi all, looking for advice please. Picked these Limnophila Heterophylla yesterday, removed from the rock wall and noticed the roots were mushy. I have still planted them - hopefully they still grow.

What do you think?

Trimming them to the healthy part of the stem would have been a better option.
