Ah red rainbow fish, thats what the seller told me, I added tetra, my bad. The size of my tank is 24 X 16 X 16 inches. Its a mid sized tank. They are not Tetras, they could well be young Red Rainbowfish (Glossolepis Incisa) and can potentially reach 6 inches (150mm), what size tank have you got them in?
That's a bit small for them length wise as they need space to swim.Ah red rainbow fish, thats what the seller told me, I added tetra, my bad. The size of my tank is 24 X 16 X 16 inches. Its a mid sized tank.
Agree, young red rainbows. They don't look like much for a long time and take an age to colour up. I had them with other rainbows when I was a kid and personally wouldn't go for a tank smaller than 4ft but preferably 5ft+ (ours were in a 6ft and they didnt make the tank look big). They are very chunky, deep bodied, active fish when mature. I would also want to keep them in harder water, they wont do great in soft acidic conditions.
Take them back now to the guy who sold them to you under false pretenses, if they do manage to survive in that tank for 6 months they will certainly not be very healthy.4 ft, damm, the guy who sold me these fishes said that they will only grow few CM more than their current size, looks like I have to arrange a new home for them in 6 months
I don't know much about these fishes but it was his recommendation and he said that these fishes will perfectly suit in my mid sized planted tank.In future, you’re better off doing your research on fish before buying them.
Unfortunately it's an all too common issue, most aquatic shops are motivated by sales not welfare or suitability. Well worth understanding fish suitable to your tank and then locating them opposed to choosing on impulse.I don't know much about these fishes but it was his recommendation and he said that these fishes will perfectly suit in my mid sized planted tank.
Exactly this. The beauty of internet and smart phones is that we can check in store before buying.I will often refer to this website in store, don't believe the shop assistants!
Also his water that is about as hard as it comes.Have a look at the pictures on this post:

The owner Dave often uses the smallest fish possible to make the perspective of the tank look even more big and beautiful. Also, the tanks are spotlessly clean. Really good for inspiration with what can be done with light stocking / small fish and good maintenance.
